How to play Large-grid 2048
The classic number-merging goal, with a little more room: this edition has 25 squares on a 5 × 5 board. Slide all tiles up, down, left or right. Equal neighbors merge into one doubled tile. Reach 2048 to win, then Keep going toward 4096 and larger numbers.
One slide, one new tile
Two random tiles start the game. After a slide that changes the board, exactly one new tile appears in a random empty cell: 2 with 90% probability or 4 with 10%. A direction that changes nothing adds no tile, move or score. The larger grid gives more room for planning, while every move follows the same classic rules.
Merge once and add the new value
A tile merges only once in each slide. Five 2 tiles in one row slide left into 4, 4, 2, not 8, 2. Each new merged value adds that many points: 2 + 2 makes 4 and earns 4; 4 + 4 makes 8 and earns 8. The extra fifth row and column take part in every slide.
Win, Continue and running out of room
Creating 2048 pauses for a win panel. Keep going retains the board, score, random stream and attempt. If that winning move also leaves a blocked board after its new tile, one combined panel records the win and explains there are no moves remaining. It offers Review or New rather than an unusable Continue button. No empty cell or equal neighboring pair means the game is over.
Simple controls
Swipe straight across the board, use four large arrow buttons, or focus the board and use arrow keys, WASD or HJKL. U undoes one slide, P pauses, and R opens a practice Restart confirmation. New asks before replacing the board. A valid move opens the immersive view on a small screen; the Full screen and Back to page controls also work manually. Leaving that view restores your prior page position. Pause hides the board and stops active time. Sound starts off.
One Undo and an honest restart
Undo returns to the previous board and score, including its exact random stream. Repeating the same direction produces the same next tile. There is no Redo or unlimited rewind. Restart repeats the same seed and starting tiles as practice. New makes a fresh attempt. First results and Undo/Restart practice history remain saved, so replays cannot turn a prior loss into another fresh finish.
Eight stars and a saved board
Tile stars mark 16, 64, 256, 1024, 2048 and 4096. The other two celebrate three different fresh completed games scoring at least 512, and beating a saved pre-game best of at least 512 without Undo or Restart. Tile milestones and best score survive Undo; the pre-game best stays fixed through reload. Continue followed by a later loss still counts only one completed attempt.
Your current 5 × 5 board, full legal history, active time, best score, sound preference and achievements save in this browser when storage is available. The visible warning explains a saving failure; keep that tab open. Progress is separate from the classic 4 × 4 and Alphabet editions. Very long Continue play uses finite safe values: equal 2^52 tiles do not merge further and the score caps at the largest safe multiple of 4. No account or online leaderboard is required.
