Preparing your table…

Tap two matching free tiles. Each needs an uncovered top and an open left or right side. Flowers match any flower; seasons match any season. Use the arrow keys and Enter on a keyboard. Larger tiles gives you a table you can scroll.

One clear pair. A little more room.

Mahjong Solitaire is a game for one player. Your goal is to remove every tile by matching free pairs. It uses a Mahjong tile set, but it is a different game from four-player Mahjong: there are no hands, discards, betting, or opponents here.

A tile is free when nothing covers any part of its top and at least one of its left or right sides is open. A tile can be blocked by one that overlaps just half of it from above. Tiles touching its top or bottom edge on the same layer do not block it. Take tiles from the tops of stacks and the ends of long rows to uncover new choices.

Know which pictures belong together.

The full set has 144 tiles. Dots, Bamboo, and Characters each have ranks 1–9, with four of every face. Match the same suit and rank. Winds match the same wind, and Dragons the same dragon. Corner numbers and letters help you recognize our original tile illustrations.

The special groups work differently: any Flower matches any other Flower, even if the artwork differs. Any Season matches any other Season. A Flower never matches a Season. The small F and S marks distinguish these two groups.

Your pace. Your table.

Turtle is the classic wide, five-layer arrangement. Our original Courtyard is narrower, with the same 144-tile set, and is the starting layout on smaller screens. The layout selector lets you choose either. Fit view shows the whole board; Larger tiles keeps the tiles at least 44 pixels wide and lets you scroll inside the table. The page itself stays in place.

Tap or click a free tile, then its match. Tap it again to deselect it; choosing a different free face selects that tile instead. Use the arrow keys to move between free tiles and Enter or Space to select. H shows a hint, U undoes, R redoes, S shuffles, and P pauses. Escape clears the selection, closes a dialog, or returns from fullscreen.

Look ahead, and keep your way back.

Every new deal is constructed with a route that clears the table. Your choices still matter: taking a different pair can leave the remaining tiles without a move. Hint shows a pair that is currently free; it does not promise that this pair leads to a complete solution.

Undo and Redo let you revisit up to 200 actions, including shuffles. Shuffle changes the faces among the same remaining positions and keeps the remaining tile set. It can provide a clearable arrangement when the geometry allows one. If tiles have become trapped in a shape that no face swap can fix, the game explains that you need to Undo or Restart. It never silently moves the stacks into a different layout.

Earn eight achievements for real pair progress and completed deals. The current deal, earned stars, and undo history save in this browser when storage is available. There is no time limit. The timer measures active play and stops when you pause or leave the tab. Celebrations stay clear of the tiles and controls.

Why can’t I pick a tile that matches?

Both tiles must be free. Clear anything overlapping their top and open a left or right side. Shade blocked makes those tiles darker; tapping one explains the rule without removing it.

Are all Flowers and Seasons interchangeable?

Flowers match only Flowers, and Seasons match only Seasons. Ordinary suits, Winds, and Dragons need an exact matching face. The two different special groups never match each other.

Does a hint solve the board for me?

No. It highlights a currently available pair and leaves both tiles for you to select. Requesting a hint counts as assistance for that attempt, including if you undo afterward. A hint-free achievement checks the entire attempt.

What happens when there are no pairs?

The remaining tiles stay on the table. You can Undo, try a Shuffle, or Restart the deal. A successful Shuffle supplies a clearable arrangement of the faces left. Some geometries, such as two tiles stacked directly on one another, cannot be repaired by swapping faces. Undo or Restart is needed in that case.

Does Restart count as a new victory?

Restart returns the same deal to its beginning and keeps the same attempt and its hint/shuffle history. Undoing or restarting a completed deal cannot count that victory again. New deal or a new layout starts a fresh attempt.

Will my game save on another phone or browser?

Saving is local to this browser and device. Reloading restores the table and waits for you to resume. Clearing browser data removes that save. If storage is blocked or full, you can still play, but keep the tab open to retain the current deal.
